RLF BUSINESS BRIEFING PAPER “SMALL STEPS: TACKLING THE UK
CONSTRUCTION SKILLS CRISIS”
The skills shortage in the UK construction
industry has been developing from a problem
into a crisis over the last decade and a half.
The incumbent UK government is investing
the highest level of public spending on
construction projects for many years,
with 40 per cent of construction industry
revenue derived from the public sector.
The construction industry is estimated to
account for approximately 8 per cent of
national gross domestic product (GDP).
A recent report indicated that increases
are anticipated in all types of work for
private clients.
