Racing ahead of the competition...

GMAC-RFC has moved its marketing up a gear with a gripping new Formula One campaign that doesn’t cut corners.

COUNT THE PUN COMPETITION: we challenged our copywriter to crowbar as many racing puns as possible into this story. Count how many you can find, then email your answer to peteh@phoenixplc.com and you could win a £30 bidding budget on Ebay.

GMAC-RFC aims to drive awareness of the benefits of POSD - its unique online decisioning system. Many see POSD as the engine; powering GMAC-RFC’s business forward… and the new marketing campaign by Phoenix would seem to support that.

The racey campaign slipstreams the previous sports themes by adopting Formula One as its vehicle to get the speed and precision messages across. Do the audience like it? Well so far, they’ve lapped it up! “It’s really slick!” remarked one particularly puntastic commentator, Mr Marshal.

Blending real life photography and a computer-generated GMAC-RFC Formula One car – the ads are as hi tech as the POSD system itself. In fact, the artworkers had so much retouching to do, without a ‘brake’, that they became known as constructors. They even had a friendly competition between them to see just how much work they could do in a day: The Constructor’s…. you’ve guessed it… Championship!

The new campaign will be doing the circuit soon: appearing in the financial trade press as well as online, on exhibitions, point of sale materials and posters. Of course, fingers are crossed that the campaign will result in a podium finish for GMAC-RFC (and Phoenix) during this year’s marketing awards season. Although, a French spokesman for Phoenix added, “We’re not so keen on a clutch of little prizes… rather, we’d like to win one Grand Prix!”

(Our senior copywriter would just like to point out that he saw his future career within the industry flash before his eyes whilst writing this article! We told him to ‘Button it’!)
